1. Set context.
2. Pre-teach vocabulary if necessary.
3. Hand out the lyrics (cut into strips) to the students and play the song. Once a student hears the lyric written on his/her strip, s/he must come to the front of the room. Students arrange themselves in the correct order.
4. Teacher reviews the order with the students by listening to the song again and having the students read/sing their lyric out loud.
CONSIDERATIONS: This activity can be adapted for use with any level. Simply choose a song that is level appropriate for the students. It is also important to remember that the lyrics do not necessarily have to be cut up line by line. Often giving students a ‘chunk’ of the song makes it easier for them to put the lyrics in order, especially if the song is fast-paced.
