Teach Thought Groups

 

One often overlooked aspect of pronunciation is thought groups – when we pause between thoughts – like verbal punctuation. A good activity to practice this is to give the students a transcript and have them guess and mark where they think the thought groups are. Then have the students listen and check their ideas. Finally, the students can perform the transcript using the correct thought group patterns.
