When choosing words to teach, consider these criteria:
(1) Importance and usefulness – choose words that are likely to come up again in other contexts. Students should be able to use these words outside the classroom.
(3) Instructional potential – The words that you choose to teach in a vocabulary lesson will need to be practiced with and used in a variety of communicative activities. Make sure the words you choose can be worked with in a variety of ways to encourage this.
To make the best use of class time, focus on words that fit all three criteria.
